GOT YOUR BACK
(2021)
This video came from watching the muscular movements of ballet dancers during a barre class. The strength and expression that exudes from the back muscles is truly beautiful and majestic, and this video presents this finding in two versions...

The process of this video was very different to others in Amy's portfolio. She started just with the images, asking the dancers to improvise with the stimulus of communicating through their back muscles. Amy edited the footage together in a sporadic montage with no clear storyline or arc and then sent it to two contrasting composers to create a soundtrack using only the images as inspiration.

Dancers: Melanie Little, Ryan Duncan, Lawrence Jeffries, Rhianna Brown, Mathilde Mignot, Amy Petts
Composer 1: Daniele Di Paolo
Composer 2: Shar Joyner

Got Your Back
GOT YOUR BACK - DIPPY EDITION

This video was filmed and edited without music and then given to two contrasting composers to interpret with their own unique music. Visually I wanted to explore the muscular beauty of a dancer's back using tension, release, extension, and expression. Using only the visuals as inspiration, Daniele created an electronic, upbeat composition, highlighting the rhythms the body creates in movement. WHAT AM I
(2020)
The concept of this video was to portray the isolation we had known in lockdown with all its questions and frustrations and then to represent how society will one day gradually be able to come back together. After 5 months of work, 6 sessions of filming, zoom rehearsals and a whole lot of love and hard work we made this contemporary dance video depicting the need for community and support in times of hardship.
I hope this video proves a little bit of the power of dance and art, we are viable, we are not low-skilled, we have the power to uplift people and change lives... I hope this video speaks to everyone and provides some hope in an uncertain time.
